Business and Market Discussions / View from New Zealand

Business conditions in Hong Kong’s private sector have deteriorated for the 15th straight month amid concerns over rising US-China trade tensions and the local extradition law protests. Orders from mainland China shrank at the fastest rate for just over three-and-a-half years.

Hong Kong’s Mandatory Provident Fund compulsory pension scheme has wiped out last year’s losses thanks to strong gains in the first six months of 2019. The MPF returned 8.43% in the first half, recovering last year’s 8.21% losses. Equity funds led the gains.

On today’s Money Talk we’ll hear from Francis Lun of GEO Securities and Jack Siu from Credit Suisse. Providing the view from New Zealand this week is Mike Gibbs-Harris of MGH Asset Management in Wellington.
