On Tuesday's Backchat, harbour reclamation; and Afghanistan
Lawmaker Alice Mak has proposed to amend the Protection of the Harbour Ordinance to facilitate reclamation within Victoria Harbour.
When the law was first enacted, the ordinance applied only to the central part of the harbour, but in 1999, it was amended to expand its scope to cover the whole of the area.
Mak, wants to reverse the scope of the ordinance to the 1997 version. That would allow reclamation for public purposes, and she says improve Hong Kong's urban planning, and facilitate the development of infrastructure, including a pedestrian tunnel and tourist attractions, while conservationists argued that further reclamation would cause more pollution in the harbour.
What do you think? Do we really need more reclamation or harbour development? Would it make more sense than Lantau Tomorrow?
After 9.15am, we’re discussion the latest situation in Afghanistan as the Taliban has taken Kabul. What does it mean for Afghans? Why did the US fail so totally?
