On Thursday's Backchat, overseas doctors; and barristers and their wigs.
The government unveiled plans on Tuesday that would allow non-permanent residents to work as specialists in Hong Kong.
Under the proposal, non-locally trained, non-permanent residents will be able to work in public hospitals under a special registration scheme, which authorities say will ensure the quality of non-locally trained doctors.
The amendment to the Medical Registration Ordinance aims to alleviate the shortage of doctors in the city. It is foreseen that by 2030, there will be a shortfall of 3,244 medical personnel.
But some doctors have raised concerns over the make-up of the government-appointed special registration committee and the standards of overseas graduates.
What do you think of the measures? Is this the right way to relieve doctor shortage?
After 9.15am, we’re discussing barristers as they will be allowed to take their signature wigs off for religious reasons.
