On Tuesday's Backchat, we’re discussing elderly welfare as the government prepares to face an ageing population with some 450,000 more seniors aged 65 and above within five years.

The new Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun said authorities are considering allowing more operators of elderly care homes to run facilities across the border to meet rising demand for spaces and manpower shortages in the city. 

But officials intend to stick with the existing allowances – meaning that a universal retirement protec-tion system is not an option for now.
