《Project Live Healthy II》 Episode 3: Vanishing Vision

2013-02-09
Producer: Chan Siu-sin

Cameras depreciate, so do our eyes. We can change our camera anytime, but we only have a single pair of eyes. How does ageing affect our eyes? Are seniors deemed to have poor eyesight? There is a general consensus that wolfberry and blueberry nourish the eyes, but is there any solid scientific evidence to support this belief?

Ageing not only adds wrinkles on our face, it also weakens the sensitivity of our eyes’ photoreceptor cells. For example, seniors may not be as sensitive in seeing color contrast compared to youths.

One of the main reasons for blindness in seniors is Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). The patients experience a loss of vision in the center of the visual field due to damage to the retina. On top of wearing special glasses or, patients are advised by eye experts to add various sounds to their daily lives and increase the color contrast of home furniture.

There are many other ways to meet the needs of seniors’ degrading eyesight.

This programme will be transmitted in TVB Pearl at 13:00-13:30 on Saturday, 9 February 2013.
