On Thursday’s Backchat, PTU; and Cathay Pacific.
The Professional Teachers’ Union announced on Tuesday that it is disbanding, around a week after the government severed ties with the body.
“It is deplorable that the social and political environment has undergone very radical changes and we are forced to ponder for the future, particularly when the pressure of the recent drastic development is so immense,” said PTU president Fung Wai-wah.
Chinese state media have been criticizing the PTU, calling it a “malignant tumour that must be eradicated.” After the announcement, Xinhua News Agency said the group shouldn't get away with any law-breaking and should be investigated by the authorities.
What do you think? As media reports say the Civil Human Rights Front is also disbanding soon, are we expecting more groups to fold? What about the CTU?
From 9:15am-9:30am, we’re discussing Cathay Pacific as it records more than HK$7 billion loss in the first half of 2021. As Covid-19 drags on, could it be worse?
