Water price increase proposals / Road subsidence incident in Sham Shui Po

2024-06-04
On Tuesday's Backchat, we're talking about the government's proposals to raise water bills. Citing budget deficit and record low recovery rates of water services operating accounts, authorities are suggesting a gradual increase in water services for the first time in almost 30 years.

Catering representatives have expressed concerns over the plans, stressing that this could lead to a chain reaction and impact operating costs at a time when more consumers flock to restaurants in nearby Shenzhen. Would a hike in water bills impact the prices of other goods and services?

After 9:45, we talk to a surveyor on a recent road subsidence incident in Sham Shui Po. Is this affecting the structural safety of nearby buildings?
