The emergency services said a record high of 401 hiking-related injuries were recorded in the first eight months of 2021, as people flocked to the hills and country parks amid the pandemic – sometimes alone.
And the Government Flying Service also received 885 calls for mountain rescues last year – twice that of the annual average of 400 from 2016 to 2019.
Several hikers have been found dead in the past few weeks, while a construction worker is still missing after he left home in Fanling last month to go trekking.
