Wetland park developments / Hong Kong Blind Union's 60th anniversary

2024-10-28
On Monday’s programme, we’re talking about the future of the city’s wetlands.

In a report released last Thursday, government commissioned consultants have suggested creating a 338-hectares wetland park in Sam Po Shue, as authorities lay out conservation areas around the future Northern Metropolis.

The report also suggests creating an "ecotourism paradise" zone in Nam Sang Wai whilst proposing to expand the current Hong Kong Wetland Park in Tin Shui Wai.

Conservationists have raised doubts over some of the plans, arguing that the size of several areas had shrunk from what was originally announced. In response, the government clarified that the figures were not definitive.

What are wetland parks? How crucial are they to our biodiversity? And can they coexist with urbanisation?

After 9:45, we talk about Hong Kong’s accessibility to visually impaired people, as the Blind Union celebrates its 60th anniversary.
