Two intellectually challenged brothers found dead at home / Flu season / Asian Games

2023-09-26
On today's Backchat, we talk about help for carers, after two mentally challenged brothers were found dead in a public housing flat last week.
The men in their fifties were believed to have starved to death after their elderly mother was admitted to hospital in May.
Their bodies were found after a security guard reported a smell from their home in Sau Mau Ping.
Over the weekend, the Welfare Secretary Chris Sun said there was no record of the family seeking assistance from the Social Welfare Department or other NGOs.
He added that the Social Welfare Department has reached out to their relatives to offer help, and that the government will soon roll out a hotline service for carers.
So what more can be done to prevent similar tragedies in future? How useful will a hotline for carers be?
After 9:40am, we'll talk to an infectious diseases expert about the upcoming flu season.
And at 9:55am, get an update on the Asian Games.
