On Monday's Backchat: Carbon neutrality; and Facebook’s “metaverse”.
Leaders of the Group of 20 major economies agreed on a final statement urgin “meaningful and effective” action to limit global warming, but offered few firms commitments.
Global attention now shifts to the United Nations COP26 climate summit which is taking place this week in Scotland.
Here, the government announced its Climate Action Plan 2050, following last month's policy address, adding more details to the drive to achieve carbon neutrality by the middle of the century.
Fresh targets have been introduced, including an end to the use of coal for electricity generation within 14 years. Meanwhile, a new gas-fired generation unit of CLP Power in Tuen Mun is now in operation. It is said to be able to reduce carbon emissions by one million metric tonnes a year.
Is it possible for Hong Kong to become carbon neutral by 2050? What needs to be done and how should we do it?
After 9.15am, we’re discussing Facebook's ambitions for its "metaverse" world of virtual reality.
