On Friday's Backchat, Hong Kong poverty alleviation and M+.
The government’s new Poverty Situation Report revealed that Hong Kong’s poverty rate fell slightly to 7.9 percent in 2020 - But only after taking into account all government help - including everything from public housing and welfare payments to one-off measures like the HK$10,000 handouts it gave last year.
The underlying situation, though, worsened, with 1.65 million people, or 23.6 percent of the population, living below the poverty line. That’s the highest level since the administration set an official poverty line in 2013.
So what should be make of the report? Is the poverty problem getting worse in Hong Kong, or not?
After 9.15am, we'll look at the brand new M+ Museum in West Kowloon, which opens to the public on Friday.
