Covid-19 / Election Committee

2021-08-13
On Friday’s Backchat, Covid-19 updates; and Election Committee. Your hosts will be Hugh Chiverton and Danny Gittings.

Chinese authorities have approved trials for the mixed-use of Sinovac jab and a DNA vaccine developed by American biotech company Inovio, which are set to begin in the autumn.
The mainland recorded 143 new cases on Monday, the highest number of daily infections since January, prompting more mass testing in the country.

Meanwhile Hong Kong, a nurse has incorrectly injected a man with two doses of the BioNTech jabs. The man was subsequently sent to hospital for observation. The city reports mostly imported cases, with the Food Expo underway.

What do we know about the situation on the mainland? Will China have to open up eventually and learn to live with Covid?

From 9:15am-9:30am, we’re discussing the Election Committee. Elections will likely not be needed for the majority of seats on the Election Committee, with the number of names put forward roughly matching the places available as the nomination period comes to an end. What's going on?
