Calls to increase wages by 5.5 percent / Three-runway system at Hong Kong airport
2024-11-07
On Thursday’s Backchat, we’re discussing wage increases. The Federation of Hong Kong and Kowloon Labour Unions has urged employers to give their staff a 5.5% raise next year as workers struggle to cope with the effects of inflation.
A survey by the unionist group found that while a majority of workers had received an average 4.5% increase, many others had their salaries frozen.
Workers in the construction and catering sectors were among the hardest hit, as delayed projects and poor sales made employers in both sectors reluctant to increase wages.
After 9:30, we talk about the three-runway system, which is expected to start operating at Hong Kong airport later this month. Tell us what you think.
