Upcoming leadership elections in Macau / Vulnerable newborn hospital care team

2024-09-02
On Monday's Backchat, we're talking about the latest political developments in Macau, ahead of the Chief Executive election in October.

Former senior Macau head judge Sam Hou-fai formally declared his plan to run for the city’s top post, days after incumbent leader Ho Iat-seng announced that he would not seek a second term citing health reasons.

The 62 year-old has pledged to diversify Macau’s economy, warning against over-reliance on the gaming sector. Addressing reporters in Portuguese, Mr Hou also praised the Lusophonic community’s contribution to the SAR’s development at a time when the central authorities hopes to boost the city’s role as a bridge between China and Portuguese speaking nations.

After 9:45, we learn more about a new specialised care unit for premature babies launched at Queen Mary Hospital.
