Rising international school demand / Voluntary insurance scheme Chinese medicine expansion plans

2024-08-06
On Tuesday's Backchat, we're talking about the rise in student numbers at international schools.

The Education Bureau revealed student enrolment at international schools hit an 11-year high, up 18 percent since 2013. But student numbers at government and aided schools fell by 12 percent over the same period, as the city faces low birth rates coupled with many families taking up the UK’s BNO visa scheme.

And studying in Britain is about to become more expensive for many Hong Kong students as the new government plans to add a 20 percent tax to private school fees. So will these higher fees encourage more families to keep their children in Hong Kong instead? And why are Hong Kong’s international schools becoming so popular?

After 9:45, we're talking about plans to add Chinese medicine hospital services to the Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme.
