Are subdivided flats on their way out? / Olympic swimmer Siobhan Haughey's success / Controversy sur

2024-07-31
On Wednesday’s Backchat, we’ll discuss the dark side of Hong Kong housing issues: subdivided flats. Subdivided flats in Hong Kong are often extremely cramped, with families living in spaces as small as a few square meters.

Poor ventilation, inadequate natural light, and shared facilities can lead to poor mental and physical health. However, for some people sometimes, subdivided flats might be the only viable option for people who need them in the city. So, are subdivided flats necessary for urban development, and can transitional housing be the solution?

Later on, we talk to the childhood coach of Siobhán Haughey and a former Olympic swimmer to find out the story behind her success.

After 9:45 we talk about the controversy surrounding the Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony.
