On Wednesday’s Backchat, we discussed the results of Australia’s general election which took place last week.

The Labor Party swept the election by securing more than half of the seats in the House of Representatives.

By doing so, party leader Anthony Albanese secured a second term in the top job, becoming the first prime minister to be re-elected since 2004. The opposition Liberal Party, meanwhile, suffered a massive setback, with its leader Peter Dutton losing his seat that he’s held for 24 years in Dickson, Queensland.

What kind of challenges will Canberra face going forward? How is Albanese going to handle key domestic issues like cost of living and healthcare?

After 9:30, we learned about Alibaba's new AI model, Qwen-3, which boasts new reasoning capabilities.

After 9:45, we looked at the problem of ageing taxi drivers, after recent Transport Department figures showed an increase in the number of elderly cabbies getting involved in accidents.
