Speaking of interdisciplinary artistic medium there is one special genre in Japan’s films and television shows. “Tokusatsu” means “special filming” in Japanese. It refers to live-action films and television shows that is filled with special effects. It includes a variety of genres such as science fiction, fantasy, horror and superhero series. Here in Hong Kong, there is a non-profit organisation that does this kind of filming.
Interdisciplinary is at the core of Julie May’s practice. She is a printmaker, painter and performance. She is also the co-founder of the collective, “Garage in Garage”, a platform where artists, musicians, costume designers and filmmakers come together to collaborate. She is here to bring us one of her recently released new song and music video.
