Hotel, F&B and tourism performance / Newborn panda twins

2024-08-19
On Monday’s Backchat, we’re talking about hotel, F&B and tourism performance in the city.

Over 25 million tourists have visited the SAR since the beginning of this year, marking a 52 percent year-on-year increase in visitors. Among those, 19.3 million were from the Mainland while the remaining 5.8 million came from overseas, a 47% and 71% year-on-year increase respectively.

But despite these promising numbers, high spending tourists are yet to make a comeback. The Peninsula’s flagship hotel in Hong Kong recorded room occupancy rates of 38% in the second quarter of this year, behind its US and Europe properties’ which stood at 62% combined.

So what can the city do to lure big spenders back? Well ask the experts.
