1. What is Podcast?

Now with Podcast, you can subscribe to audios and videos via the podcasting software. The latest audio and video contents will automatically reach at your fingertips for your regular check-out of their availability. You may also download the files and transfer them to play back anytime on a portable media player (mp3/mp4).

2. Do I have to pay for subscribing to RTHK Podcasts?

No. The “RTHK Podcasts” is a free service. You can subscribe to any programme you like.

3. How to subscribe and download Podcast programmes on a desktop computer?

For PC Users:

- Use iTunes to subscribe and download RTHK programmes (Users should first load the iTunes software by themselves) :

a.Press the “iTunes” button on the programme frontpage.

b.Confirm to open it with iTunes.

c.Upon successfully subscribe to a programme, its latest episode will be automatically downloaded to your computer via iTunes. You may also download all or select particular episode(s) from the list of “subscribed programmes” by pressing “Get all” or “Get” button.

d.Downloading the programme. (Refer to screen capture):

e.Download completed. You can now play the programme anytime and anywhere you like. Just point your mouse at the downloaded episodes. Double-click (left-mouse button) quickly to play.

f.If you wish to delete any episodes, you may just select the episode title(s) and then right click your mouse to “delete” it. (*Likewise, episode title(s) will be deleted in the programme list)

- Use Google Reader to subscribe and download programmes (Users have to own a Google account) :

a.First, log in a Google account.

b.Press the “Google Reader” button on the programme page.

c.You will be guided to the below page (See the image). Please select “Add to Google Reader”:

d.Go to “Google Reader” and click open the links of episodes of programme underneath “subscription”. The related programme will be played automatically.

e.If you wish to download the programme, just place the mouse pointer at the episode links. Then right click the mouse on “Save link as...”.

For Mac Users:

- Use iTunes to subscribe and download RTHK programmes (Users should first load the iTunes software by themselves) :

a.Press the “iTunes” button on the programme frontpage.

b.Upon successfully subscribe to a programme, its latest episode will be automatically downloaded to your computer via iTunes. You may also download all or select particular episodes from the list of “subscribed programmes” by pressing “Get all” or “Get” button.

c.Downloading the programme.

d.Download completed. You may play the programme anytime you like. (Quickly double-click on the selected episodes)

e.If you wish to delete the episodes, you may select the episode title(s) and then right click your mouse to “delete” it. (*Likewise, episode title(s) will be deleted in the programme list)

- Use Google Reader to subscribe and download programmes (Users have to own a Google account) :

a.First, log in a Google account.

 b.Press the “Google Reader” button on the programme frontpage.

c.You will be guided to the below page (See the image). Please select “Add to Google Reader”:

d.Go to “Google Reader” and click open the links of episodes of programme underneath “subscription”. The related programme will be played automatically.

e.If you wish to download the programme, just place the mouse pointer at the episode links. Right click the mouse once and select “download linked file”.

4. How to subscribe to podcast programmes on your mobile phone/pc tablet?

For iOS Users:

You may use the "Podcasts app" to search and download programmes (Users should first load the "Podcasts app" by themselves) :

a.Download and install "Podcasts" app.

b.Open the app and then press “Catalog” on the left upper corner.

c.Press “Search” button. Enter the programme name onto the search bar. Then press search on your keyboard and you will get the programme that you are looking for, e.g. “rthk: the pulse”.

d.Press the programme that you wish to subscribe (E.g. RTHK: The Pulse) to enter its content page. Press “Subscribe” button underneath the progamme name to subscribe.

e.Subscribed programme(s) are shown in database.

f.Gently click on the episodes, the programme will be played immediately.

g.You may also press the「↓」download button next to the episodes to download for offline play-back.

h.Downloading the episodes. The download button will disappear once completed (see image):

i.If you wish to delete the downloaded episodes, you may select the episode title(s) and by scrolling to “delete” them. (*Likewise, episode title(s) will be deleted in the programme list)

For Android Users:

Use Google Reader to subscribe and download programmes (Users have to own a Google account) :

a.First, log in a Google account.

 b.Press the “Google reader” on the programme frontpage.

c.You will be guided to the below page (See the image). Please select “Add to Google Reader”

d.Go to “Google Reader” and click open the links of episodes of programme underneath “subscription”. The related programme will be played automatically.

e.If you wish to download a programme, just point at its episode and hold for a few seconds. Then select “Save link”.

5. Is there any time-limit for RTHK's Podcast programmes?
In general, the programmes showcased are of the last 12 months.
6. Do I need a specially designed player to listen or watch the subscribed programmes?

No need. If your computer is readily connected to the internet, you may gain free access via free software, such as iTunes or Google Reader. You can also visit the RTHK Podcasts webpage to watch or listen the programmes directly.

7. Can I simply download some of the episodes without subscription?

Yes. You may click on the download button (see image) next to the selected programme once, and then follow the computer instructions.

8. What is the video/audio format of RTHK Podcasts?
The video format of RTHK Podcasts is MP4, whereas audios will be played on MP3 format.
