On Monday's Backchat, the waste-charging scheme; and freelancing.
Lawmakers have finally approved the long-delayed legislation to charge households for their rubbish disposal, based on the amount they throw away.
It remains unclear when the scheme will launch as officials have extended the
implementation period indefinitely. The government says it will take around 18 months to prepare for the programme that will require residents to dispose of their trash.
The bags will come in 11 sizes, with a 10-litre bag to cost HK$1.1 and a 15-litre bag to cost HK$1.7.
But green groups blasted the concession, saying the lack of a clear timeline would prevent waste reduction from going ahead.
What do you think? How do we prevent people from dumping? What about the catering industry? We will be joined by the Environment Secretary Wong Kam-sing to discuss the scheme.
After 9.15am, we’re discussing freelancing, as a survey finds that more young people would like to work as freelancers, instead of taking up permanent jobs. Why?
