School principals have urged the government to fully ban e-cigarettes after education bodies say there is an increasing usage among teenagers. Official figures showed less than 1% of primary and secondary students were using alternative tobacco products.
In 2019, a bill to outlaw the import, production, distribution, sales and promotion of new smoking products was introduced to Legco – but it has been stuck ever since.
Would a ban be effective in encouraging young smokers to quit? Or will it instead drive them to buy traditional tobacco products?
