Keep on Dancing

2024-11-05
Dancing is a sport and leisure. It can also be a self-discovery journey.

On weekdays, Arya Jackson is an Indonesian domestic helper.

On Sundays, Arya puts on her dance costumes and takes up another role – leader of an Indonesian dance group, the Jackson Dancer. All six members of the group are “Indonesian helpers”. They came from different dance groups and were even competitors on stage before. Yet, their talents have brought them together.

Arya has left her home in Indonesia and started working overseas for over 20 years. She came to Hong Kong 17 years ago. To Arya and the dancers, Hong Kong is the place where they work. It is also the place where they have spent most of their youth.

Here in Hong Kong, they have found another way of life, a space and a stage that is not available back home. They also get to learn afresh and even promote the culture of their homeland.

Hong Kong Stories: Connected with Hong Kong

Hong Kong is an international metropolitan city that blends new and old trends, merging Chinese and Western cultures. Its vibrant lifestyle, diverse communities, world-class infrastructure, and strong economic potential attract talent from around the world to seek opportunities and realize their dreams, some even settling down there.
The protagonists of this series "Hong Kong Stories" are these expatriates - they are both Hong Kong people and not Hong Kong people; they are talented individuals with various aspirations. They come from Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Europe, Africa, and other places. The programme features personal profiles and interviews to understand how this group of people from different backgrounds excel in Hong Kong's open and diverse metropolis, while also contributing to the city.
They will share their Hong Kong stories, their impressions and feelings about Hong Kong, their adaptation process and experiences, personal anecdotes and tales, as well as why they like Hong Kong and their emotional connections to the city.
