On Thursday's Backchat, we will talk about Putonghua education in Hong Kong.
The Secretary for Education said earlier that local schools should teach the Chinese language in Putonghua, if certain conditions can be met.
Christine Choi said Hong Kong youth would be at a disadvantage if they can't speak Putonghua, and lose out on opportunities offered by the mainland's rapid development.
Currently, schools teach the Chinese subject in both Cantonese and Putonghua.
Are schools and teachers equipped to teach the Chinese language in Putonghua? What difficulties are there? How would this affect students?
After 9:15, we'll look at a new survey that highlights the need for more recreational facilities in Hong Kong.
