Silas Aaron Hardoon

2018-01-13

China analyst and author Mark O’Neill joins Annemarie to talk about a hugely successful Jewish businessman, Silas Aaron Hardoon, who was born in a poor family in Baghad, but would work his way up to become at one point the richest man in Asia. He travelled to Shanghai in 1868 and worked for the Sassoons. He would later branch out on his own and had a real talent for real estate foreseeing how Shanghai would expand. Mr Hardoon features in Mark’s book: Israel and China: from the Tang Dynasty to Silicon Wadi.
