Ethnic minority education in schools 2-7-2021

2021-07-02
On today's Agender Cafe we’re talking about attitudes towards ethnic minority children in Hong Kong Schools, and hearing some personal experiences from parents and a student. Last week The Zubin Foundation held an online lunch and learning event to raise these issues, and hosts Karen Koh and Noreen Mir will be chatting with the panelists: Angela Kaur Baura, a journalist and content writer. Angela has three children who all attend private schools in Hong Kong. Their family are practicing Sikhs and Angela will talk about race and religious ignorance and intolerance; along with Syed, a HK-Indian entrepreneur who has two children in local primary schools. Syed will talk about the experiences of the local education system; and we'll also be hearing from Jessie Prudence Larbi, who's half Chinese and half Ghanaian. Jessie has been living in Hong Kong for a decade now and is currently studying journalism and political science at HKU and she'll talk about colourism, identity misconceptions, and exclusion because she is mixed- race.

Agender Cafe

The Agender Cafe serves up a delicious array of topics on gender, sex, sexuality and society. Every week we have a frank, open conversation with our guests about issues which affect us all, and try to tackle some of those “taboo” topics.

Sit down with hosts Karen Koh & Noreen Mir every Friday from 2-3pm and enjoy a visit to the Agender Cafe!
