The Hong Kong Eye exhibition was presented in London’s Saatchi Gallery in December and January. If you couldn’t make it to London, now is your chance to catch up with those works, and more, at Artistree in Quarry Bay. Containing works from 24 Hong Kong artists, the exhibition opened in Hong Kong on 1st May. Accompanying the exhibition is a publication of the same title. Both explore Hong Kong contemporary art and how it diverges from art of the same period in mainland China.
The exhibition “Napoleon and the Decorative Art: Treasures of the Imperial Palaces “ runs until July 14th at the Macao Museum of Art. The exhibition includes125 of the finest masterpieces that adorned the Napoleonic palaces during the First French Empire. The pieces include furniture, tapestries, candelabras, chandeliers, and pendulum clocks, even an Imperial throne, all designed to reflect the greater glory of the Emperor.
Hiroshi Senju is famous for his large scale waterfall paintings. His waterfall studies have earned him a strong reputation and his large works are often hung in public spaces. Like many natural phenomena, many of his latest pieces change as you observe them in different lighting conditions. Since 2007, hes been exploring the possibilities of painting waterfall images using fluorescent pigments.
Nouvelle Vague is a French musical group set up and led by musicians Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux. Their name means "new wave" in French, and they specialise in giving old and well-known songs a new sound, often with a bossa nova beat. Even punk rock gets the Latin treatment. The band is known for working with a long list of female vocalists, many of whom have later gone on to careers as soloists or with other projects. Last weekend, Nouvelle Vague were in Hong Kong, in a performance that also featured elements from the world renowned “Crazy Horse Paris” cabaret.
